Big Sam & Barcelona at Perform St. George’s Park
It’s been a busy week at Perform St. George’s Park with two high profile events happening on site.
On Monday morning new England Manager Sam Allardyce started his first day in the job with a tour of the St. George’s Park site and a national press conference.
Unlike his predecessor Roy Hodgson, Sam will be based at The National Football Centre permanently which means for the first time the England senior, under 21 (Gareth Southgate) and under 20 (Aidy Boothroyd) managers will all be based on site full-time.
“Big Sam” has always been a pioneer in utilising Sports Science to maximise performance, recovery and rehabilitation standards, and is already familiar with Perform having undergone a Perform for Life health assessment through our LMA partnership. We look forward to supporting Sam and the team throughout his time and their efforts for success at major tournaments.
Sam Allardyce was not the only high profile figure to grace the Perform facilities this week. La Liga champions Barcelona came to St. George’s Park this week for a 5 day training camp before their International Champions Cup match against Celtic in Dublin.
Included in the squad were two thirds of Barcelona’s prolific “MSN” strike force, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. The players enjoyed exclusive access to Perform’s world class strength & conditioning gym, as well as post training recovery sessions in the hydrotherapy suite.
It is the second time the 5 time European Champions have come for a pre-season training camp at St. George’s Park having first attended the home of England Football back in 2013. The whole Perform team wishes them the best of luck for the upcoming season and look forward to welcoming them back for another stay in the near future.
